Almost everyone is looking for breakthrough ideas for improvements in the laboratory. The new LABVOLUTION AWARD “Excellence in Lab Optimization” recognizes the most innovative ideas with a lasting impact. Geniu is one of three partners of the award. The best lab optimization projects will win and be honored during LABVOLUTION in Hanover from 21 to 23 May 2019. The most innovative and sustainable concepts will receive high-quality seminars and consulting services worth over 10,000 euros.
Storing samples under refrigeration while saving as much energy as possible, finding the optimum cleaning solution to keep laboratory glassware clean at all times, making serial tests more efficient, making processes more productive or creating interfaces to gain insights from large amounts of data – there are plenty of approaches, ideas and projects to improve everyday laboratory work. The European laboratory trade fair LABVOLUTION will be awarding prizes for practical examples for the first time next year. The newly created LABVOLUTION AWARD is explicitly aimed at users from the laboratory sector, i.e. laboratories, research groups or even individuals. The subtitle makes it clear exactly what it is all about: “Excellence in Lab Optimization” – in other words, outstanding improvements that have a significant added value for work and processes in the laboratory.
“With the LABVOLUTION AWARD, it is not only important that an excellent solution has been implemented, it must also have proven to be sustainably successful,” says Bernd Heinold, Project Manager LABVOLUTION at Deutsche Messe AG. “In this way, we create a platform for remarkable projects and ensure the exchange of best-practice knowledge.” The requirements are deliberately open. This means that users can apply for the award with processes, procedures and methods as well as with technologies, software, design or management techniques (e.g. lean in the laboratory). The important thing is that a relevant improvement can be demonstrated. And this can also relate to very different areas – from increased productivity, cost savings, speed, reliability, safety, material consumption or energy efficiency to motivation or employee satisfaction.
The application phase for the LABVOLUTION AWARD begins with the call for entries in October 2018. An independent jury of experts will select three finalists from all the entries. The winners of the first, second and third places will be announced during LABVOLUTION from May 23 to 25, 2019 in Hanover. Depending on their requirements, the winners will receive courses and consulting services from Geniu, which offers innovative consulting services and training specifically for laboratories, worth 10,000 euros (1st place), 2,500 euros (2nd place) and 1,000 euros (3rd place). To determine the winner, the jury is guided by the criteria of innovative solution, implementation and added value. The innovative solution is about how new or unique the presented approach is and to what extent it increases and improves functionality compared to the previous situation. Another aspect is how simple, reliable and user-friendly the solution is. During implementation, it depends on how effective the approach is, how quickly it could be introduced within the laboratory organization or how big the hurdles were that had to be overcome internally or externally. Finally, when looking at the added value for the laboratory, what counts is how extensively the laboratory could be optimized, whether the solution has a lasting effect and to what extent the optimization results can also be explicitly measured.
LABVOLUTION is aimed at the entire laboratory world. As a European trade fair for innovative laboratory technology and the optimization of laboratory workflows, it covers laboratory technology, laboratory infrastructure and analytics for users from the chemical, pharmaceutical, life sciences, biotechnology, environmental, food and medical industries as well as from the fields of routine analysis, quality control and research and development. Due to Hannover’s central location, the exhibitors at LABVOLUTION mainly reach trade visitors from northern, eastern and western Germany, the Benelux countries, France, the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Poland and parts of eastern Europe.
