The LABVOLUTION AWARD is aimed at laboratories that implement “digital or analog optimizations”. The application phase starts on February 15. The best laboratory optimization projects will be awarded during LABVOLUTION from 7 to 9 September 2021 in Hanover.
Hamburg. Designing effective and “lean” processes in the laboratory, digitizing workflows or increasing productivity – the possibilities for optimizing work in the laboratory are very diverse. The most innovative solutions – whether “big or small” – will be honored at LABVOLUTION in September. The LABVOLUTION AWARD is aimed at users from laboratories, i.e. individual managers and employees or teams or research groups. Since this year, the competition has been supplemented by two special prizes aimed specifically at students and doctoral candidates. These are intended to recognize the best Bachelor’s or Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations.
“We are delighted to be presenting the award again this year together with Deutsche Messe AG,” says Dr. Wolf-Christian Gerstner, Managing Director of Geniu. “This year, we are also offering a stage to students and doctoral candidates with innovative ideas for laboratory and process optimization. We are very excited about the applications!” The requirements are deliberately open. This means that users can apply for the prize with processes, procedures and methods as well as with technologies, software, design or management techniques. The improvement ideas can be “small projects or improvement measures” that require few resources or medium or large projects that are correspondingly more cost-intensive and/or time-consuming. “The size of the project is not decisive – it ultimately depends on the ratio of effort and benefit,” says Dr. Gerstner. For the special prize for students, the degree of innovation and the practical relevance of the idea for optimizing the processes and procedures of a laboratory are particularly important. Thematically, this can relate to very different areas – from increasing productivity, cost savings, speed, reliability, safety, material consumption or energy efficiency to increasing motivation or employee satisfaction.
The application phase begins on February 15, 2021. An independent jury will select three finalists and two winners for the special prizes from all applications. The winners of the prizes will be announced during LABVOLUTION from September 7 to 9, 2021 in Hanover. Depending on their requirements, the winners will receive online/presence training and/or consulting services from Geniu worth 10,000 euros (1st place), 2,500 euros (2nd place) and 1,000 euros (3rd place). The special prizes are endowed with 1,000 euros (doctorate) and 750 euros (Bachelor/Master). In addition, all prize winners will receive an exhibition space at Labvolution 2021 (e.g. for a poster and/or exhibit), participation in Geniu’s “Lab Excellence Forum” (1-day seminar), a subscription to Laborpraxis and the opportunity to contribute to Laborpraxis.
