“The laboratory of the future” – this was the theme of the Laboratory Impulse Forum held in Darmstadt on April 8 and 9, 2019. Around 150 laboratory planners, fitters and users discussed the latest findings and trends relating to the conversion and new construction of laboratories. This year’s focus was on the following topics automation and efficiency.
The demands on laboratory planning and equipment have continued to rise in recent years. It is no longer enough to simply place a few workbenches and fume cupboards in a room. When planning floor plans and laboratory layouts, it is much more important to consider a laboratory infrastructure that is tailored to workflows and walking routes. Under the keyword “Lean Lab Design“, efficiency benefits of up to 20% can be realized when planning new laboratory buildings and conversions with the help of lean techniques.
