At Labvolution in 2019, the “APRONA” project team from Goldfuß engineering, Biametrics, BioTeSys and the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC won 3rd place with their robot-based platform for the automated production of nanoparticles. The system was set up at the Fraunhofer ISC in Würzburg in 2020 for further testing purposes in order to collect additional data during ongoing practical operation. The initial results are very promising: the system delivers nanoparticles of significantly better quality than manual synthesis in the laboratory.
The next step was to publicize this innovative technology. This is where the prize in the form of training and consulting services from Geniu came in handy. An online workshop was designed for the project team in which best practices for successful case studies were presented and implementation was discussed using the APRONA project. Dr. Wolf-Christian Gerstner, Managing Director of Geniu and an expert in operational excellence in laboratories, moderated the workshop. The participants were satisfied with the results of the workshop: “We now have a much better understanding of what information is relevant for potential customers,” said Dr. Jörn Probst from Fraunhofer ISC. His team colleague Dr. Dembski expressed a similar opinion: “I thought the workshop was very good. We now have a good plan on how to create a convincing case study”.
In 2021, the Labvolution Award will once again be presented by Geniu together with Deutsche Messe and Laborpraxis. The application phase runs until the end of June. New this year is a special prize for students and doctoral candidates. Prizes worth over EUR 15,000 await the winners.
